Interior and exterior, residential and commercial painting.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I graduated from the University of Florida in 1980. While going to college, I worked for the owner of a small painting company. I enjoyed the work. My father owned rental property so I was used to physical labor while growing up and I played sports in school. I decided that I would enjoy the freedom and satisfaction that owning your own business allows. I was always a responsible sort, so with my education and the training that I received from my former employer, it was easy for me to schedule work, manage a jobsite, and make sure that my accounts and business dealings were handled properly. I wanted to keep my business small, but managed to obtain accounts with Alachua County and several local realtors, so I was off to the races. I have enjoyed a successful 30 years in Gainesville.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I like to keep it simple. I am on every jobsite. I do not hire temporary workers or day-laborers. Unless it is a very large job, it is usually me and one other painter that has worked with me for years. On larger jobs, I bring on experienced painters that I have worked with for 10-20 years. My goal is always to perform every job as efficiently as possible. When I say I'll be there - I'm there. Because, I've been painting for over 30 years, I'm able to complete a job in an orderly fashion with the very least amount of inconvenience to the client. I stand behind my work. Most of my work is referral or repeat clients so it is very important for me to have a satisfied customer.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I have one location with no plans to expand. My goal since I started my business back in 1980 was to keep it simple so that I can, personally, be on every job.
